Adventure off grid with a camping road trip in the North West of England

The North West of England is home to England’s largest national park, the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. We’re guessing you’ve heard of it?

It’s 912-square miles of towering fells, breathtaking valleys, freshwater lakes and hidden waterfalls just begging to be explored.

And while some of the picturesque villages are hotspots for tourists, there are plenty of places to get off-grid in a camper truck or campervan and discover areas of the Lakes many visitors never see.

Our 4x4 campers are ideal for road tripping across steep and twisting mountain passes and transporting you to remote hiking spots. Or forgo the Lakes entirely and explore the North West’s coastline and Lancashire countryside.

And with a comfy bed, a bathroom, heating and seating in your camper, you’ve got everything you need wherever you stop your home.

Can I wild camp in the Lake District and North West of England?

Wild camping isn’t allowed in England, including the Lakes, but it doesn’t stop you escaping the beaten track.

The adventurers at Off Grid Camp have rounded up some amazing off-grid spots for overnight stays – all with the land owner’s full permission.

From lakeside farmland to remote mountain pitches, you can pay to stay and get wild, remote, 4x4 awesomeness.

When camping at these locations, you must agree to:

  • be self-sufficient: I will not expect toilets, bins, water or any facilities unless these luxuries (!) are offered by the individual Off Grid Camp locations.
  • leave no trace: I will take all rubbish away with me and leave no trace. Not even a rogue tissue, burnt fire mark or unnecessary tyre tracks.
  • 'The Poo Pledge': Where no facilities are provided, I agree to bring a shovel or to have a self-contained toilet and ensure that there is no evidence of my business for future campers.
  • drive responsibly and within your capabilities: I will liaise directly with landowners and adhere to their requests.
